Suspected Pakistani fugitive woman held in Tripura after escaping Nepal jail; linked to drug trafficking

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused woman had breakthrough from jail in Nepal and had links with Pakistan. She was initially detained by the Government Railway Police and later sent to the local police station for questioning.

Louis Nighat Akhtar Bhano, a suspected Pakistani fugitive who escaped from a Nepalese jail, was arrested in Sabroom, a border town of South Tripura. The 65-year-old woman reportedly dealt in drug trafficking. According to Sabroom police officer Nityananda Sarkar, she was initially detained by the Government Railway Police and later sent to the local police station for questioning.

Suspected Pak Woman Had Escaped From Nepal Jail

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had breakthrough from jail in Nepal and had links with Pakistan. “It is suspected that she came with the intention to cross over to the other side of the border to Bangladesh. Police and other security agencies are interrogating her to gather more information about her movements and intentions,” NDTV quoted Sarkar as saying. The woman’s nationality is yet to be confirmed, and a probe is underway to verify her identity.

Bhano’s Pakistani Links

Bhano is suspected of being married to Md Golaf Faraj, a resident of Pakistan’s Sheikhupura. She reportedly entered the Himalayan nation twelve years ago using a Pakistani passport and indulged in illegal drug trafficking. She was sentenced to 15 years in Kathmandu jail after being caught by the Nepal police for carrying 1 kg of brown sugar in 2014. She allegedly escaped from Nepal amid widespread Gen Z protests last month.
