Amid the festive spirit, incidents reported from Jharkhand’s Lethar and Karnataka’s Mandya districts have raised concerns. Around 35 children fell ill after eating chowmein at a fair in Jharkhand’s Latehar district on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, on Friday morning, several children and members of a family fell ill due to suspected food poisoning in two districts of Karnataka.
The children’s health deteriorated after eating chowmein from a stall during a village fair in Temki village, under the Sadar police station area of Latehar district. An official stated on Thursday that the case is a case of suspected food poisoning.
The sick children range in age from two to 15 years. All were immediately admitted to Sadar Hospital. Pediatrician Dr. Jaiprakash said, “They were brought to the hospital by ambulance between 9:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. It was a case of food poisoning. The children are now stable,” he said, adding that they will be discharged soon.
Ten students at a residential school in Karnataka’s Mandya district fell ill on Friday morning. Located in KM Doddi, Maddur taluk, the students experienced stomach pain, vomiting, and other symptoms. Officials stated that this is also a case of suspected food poisoning, and all students were treated at a hospital.
Earlier, another worrying case was reported from Karnataka’s Raichur district, where three members of a family died, while two others were hospitalized. According to officials, this is also a case of suspected food poisoning.
These incidents have once again raised questions about the food safety situation. They underscore the need for strict monitoring of food quality, especially during festivals and crowded events.
