Surat: Amidst the festive season, Surat Police seized a big consignment of fake currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 2000 worth Rs 2.27 billion. The police have also arrested six accused in this regard, police said on Tuesday.
Surat Rural Superintendent of Police Hitesh Kumar Hansraj said that on the basis of information received on September 29, the police seized Rs 25.80 crore counterfeit notes from an ambulance and 3 people were arrested. Fake notes worth Rs 52 crore and Rs 12 crore were recovered from the house of two accused.

He further said that during interrogation it was found that Vikas Jain and Dinanath Yadav had sent this consignment from Mumbai.
3 accused were arrested from Mumbai and counterfeit notes worth Rs 227,04,50,000 were recovered, Surat SP said, adding that fake notes worth Rs 67 crore were old currency notes (pre-demonetisation).
He added that the investigation is going on in the matter.
According to police sources, the police have formed teams to nab the persons involved in printing these counterfeit notes and arrest others involved in the gang. The police suspect that a big gang is involved in this racket.
