New Delhi: Amid deteriorating air quality, the Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea related to rising air pollution in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR) on November 10.

A lawyer mentioned the matter before a bench headed by Chief Justice UU Lalit, who said: “We will hear the case on November 10, Thursday, reports news agency UNI.

“We agree that the issue requires intervention. List it for hearing on November 10.” The CJI, who will demit office on November 8 said, the report added.

Urging for an urgent hearing in the matter, the lawyer said that parali burning is one of the main reasons for the increase in air pollution in Delhi-NCR.

The air quality of the national capital on Friday morning turned “severe” as the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) of the city stood at 472, according to data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

AQI presently stands at 562 in Noida (UP) in ‘Severe’ category, 539 in Gurugram (Haryana) in ‘Severe’ category & 563 near Delhi University in ‘Severe’ category. Delhi’s overall AQI is currently in the ‘Severe’ category at 472.
