On Tuesday, the Supreme Court ruled against ordering a re-test for NEET-UG 2024, stating that the available data does not indicate a ‘systemic leak’ of the question paper. Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, who led the bench alongside Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, emphasized that there is no evidence suggesting a widespread issue or breach affecting the exam’s integrity.
‘The data on record does not show any systemic leak that would compromise the exam’s sanctity,’ Chief Justice Chandrachud remarked. He added that canceling the NEET-UG would be unjustified given the current evidence, which would affect over 24 lakh students who participated in the exam.

The court acknowledged that a re-test would have significant repercussions for the large number of students. It was also noted that the Union government has established a seven-member expert committee to address and strengthen the NEET-UG exam process to prevent future issues.
The NEET-UG, conducted by the National Testing Agency, is crucial for admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and related courses across India. This year’s exam took place on May 5, with over 23.33 lakh students attending across 4,750 centers in 571 cities, including 14 abroad.
Earlier in the day, an expert panel from IIT-Delhi submitted a report on a disputed physics question alleged to have two correct answers. The panel concluded that the fourth option was correct, according to Chief Justice Chandrachud.
