The Supreme Court has granted the Uttar Pradesh state government permission to proceed with its plans under a newly issued ordinance concerning the development of the Shri Banke Bihari Temple corridor in Vrindavan.
In its submission to the apex court, the state government clarified that under the ordinance, the responsibility for the construction of the corridor has been entrusted to a trust. It emphasized that the government will not directly utilize the temple’s funds for the project.
The state government said that the entire responsibility of managing the temple has been handed over to the trust. The government has no role in this.
The case reached the Supreme Court after a sevayat (priest) filed a petition opposing the transfer of the temple’s Rs 300 crore fund to the state government.
Responding to the concerns, the Supreme Court has directed the state government to submit an affidavit detailing the provisions of the new ordinance. The next hearing in the case has been scheduled for July 29.
On May 15, the Supreme Court in its order allowed the Uttar Pradesh government to use the funds of the Shri Banke Bihari Temple, Vrindavan Temple, for the development of the temple corridor.
The court had also laid down the condition that the land acquired would be in the name of the deity, and the land would also be registered in the name of the deity.
