The Supreme Court has now cleared green crackers for use and sale on Diwali in the Delhi-NCR region. The top court had relaxed the firecracker ban conditions in the Delhi-NCR region. Bursting of green firecrackers are allowed from October 18 to October 21.
What The Supreme Court Said on October 10
On October 10, 2025, a bench led by Chief Justice B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran verbally greenlit a trial relaxation: sale and bursting of only green firecrackers will be allowed for these five Diwali days, but strictly between 8 PM and 10 PM each evening. The new shift from the blanket ban imposed on April 2025. The bench noted, “For the time being, we will allow it during the five days of Diwali on a trial basis…However, we will confine it to certain time limits”.

What the Bench said today - October 15
A group of judges, including Chief Justice Bhushan R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinod Chandran, said the order is temporary. It is meant to see if allowing some controlled use of firecrackers can happen without harming efforts to reduce pollution. The court asked the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and state boards to check air and water quality during this time and submit a report from October 14 to 21 on how fireworks affect Delhi’s air.
Fire crackers or Green crackers for Diwali- Can you burst them these 5 days?
Yes, you can burst, but only green ones, 8-10 PM, in open spaces—not balconies or indoors. Only licensed shops can start their sales. No Amazon/Flipkart deliveries in NCR. Traditional “patakhas” (full of barium nitrate and heavy metals) are out.
In Delhi-NCR for Diwali 2025, you can burst only green firecrackers during a 2-hour window (8 PM to 10 PM) on these five days.
