Sudha Murty News: Sudha Murty, the popular author and Chairperson of Infosys Foundation, has lodged a complaint with the Bengaluru Police, claiming that her name was misused to deceive people at two distinct incidents in the United States. Mamata Sanjay, Murty’s executive assistant had lodged the complaint on her behalf. The Indian Express reported that two individuals, Lavanya and Shruthi, have been identified and booked by the Bengaluru Police in connection with the matter. The case has been registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, specifically sections 419 and 420, as well as sections 66(c) and 66(d) of the Information Technology Act.
50th Anniversary Celebration of KKNC
According to the complaint, Sudha Murty, the philanthropist, initially received an invitation to participate in the 50th anniversary celebration of the Kannada Koota of Northern California (KKNC) on April 5th. Reports said that her office promptly responded, explaining her inability to attend the event. However, on August 30th, Sudha Murty stumbled upon photos and videos from the KKNC event that falsely indicated she would be the chief guest. The report suggests that when Murty contacted the KKNC organizers, they stated that Lavanya had not only confirmed her presence at the event but had also asserted herself as Murty’s personal assistant.
‘Meet-and-greet with Dr. Sudha Murty’
The second incident involved another woman named Shruthi. India Today reported that she allegedly collected $40 from people by falsely asserting that Sudha Murty would be participating in an event in the United States. An advertisement promoting a ‘meet-and-greet with Dr. Sudha Murty’ scheduled for September 26 caught the attention of Murty’s office.
Investigation Underway
Talking to Indian Express about the case, a police officer said that a thorough investigation is underway and they are currently in the process of determining whether these women are currently located in the USA or India.
