In a shocking incident, a student was allegedly gang-raped within the premises of a Law College in West Bengal’s Kolkata, prompting the police to arrest three men- two staffers and one alumnus of the institution in connection with the case.

The three accused, Manojit Mishra, Zaib Ahmed and Pramit Mukhopadhyay, who the Police have named, have been remanded to police custody till July 1.

National Commission for Women (NCW) took suo moto cognisance of a shocking incident reported from Kolkata.
"Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar has written to the Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, expressing deep concern and directing immediate, time-bound investigation under relevant provisions of BNS. She has also stressed the need to extend full medical, psychological, and legal assistance to the victim, along with compensation under Section 396 of BNSS. The Commission has sought a detailed action-taken report within 3 days."
Accused Manojit Mishra's lawyer, Azam Khan, said, " There is an allegation of gangrape. The woman has alleged that she was raped in college premises. The court has granted police custody till Tuesday, 1st July."
Opposition party BJP lashed out at the ruling party, TMC and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the gang-rape incident. Union Minister Sukanta Majumdar said, " Till the time Mamata Banerjee remains in power in the state such rape incidents will keep happening. The rapists have no fear, they know TMC will protect them."
All India Trinamool Congress issued a statement over the gang-rape incident. The party stated, "We unequivocally condemn the tragic rape incident at South Calcutta Law College. Kolkata Police have swiftly apprehended all three accused, and the full weight of the law will be brought to bear, ensuring the most severe measures are imposed on those found guilty."
