Srinagar: A protest broke out in Jammu and Kashmir Kupwara district on Wednesday after the body of a man who went missing from Army custody was found in forest by local police. Protesters blamed the security forces for alleged custodial death and demanded justice.
Abdul Rashid Dar, a driver, was picked up by The Indian Army for questioning on December 15 last year. Since then his family had been demanding to release him.
An army official said Dar has fled from custody.
According to information, local Police found his body in a forest in Zirhama village. A medical board conducted the autopsy and handed over Dar’s body to family members.
“After inputs, we have been searching for his body in a forest area for the last three days. Today, We found the body,” said Kupwara senior Superintendent of Police Yogul Manhas.
According to the Police, the Army had given them in writing that Abdul Dar fled from their custody.
