Srikakulam Temple Stampede: PM Modi announces Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia for families of deceased, Rs 50,000 for injured

On Saturday noon, a stampede broke out at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple, claiming nine lives and injuring several others. The tragic incident occurred after a large crowd gathered at the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi.

Srikakulam Temple Stampede: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday announced an ex gratia of Rs 2 lakh each from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) to the next of kin of those who lost their lives, and Rs 50,000 to those injured in the Srikakulam stampede. He expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Andhra Pradesh and extended condolences to the families of the victims. In a post on X, he also prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.

“The stampede that occurred at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh, is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to those who have lost their loved ones and family members. I pray that the injured recover quickly. We are providing Rs. 2 lakh ex gratia through PM NR Fund to the relatives of those who lost their lives, and Rs. 50,000 to the injured: Prime Minister @narendramodi,” PMO wrote on X.

Srikakulam Temple Stampede

On Saturday noon, a stampede broke out at the Venkateswara Swamy Temple, claiming nine lives and injuring several others. The tragic incident occurred after a large crowd gathered at the temple on the occasion of Ekadashi. The heavy rush of devotees led to overcrowding, resulting in a sudden stampede. The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Andhra CM Chandrababu Naidu expresses condolences

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu also expressed condolences over the loss of lives in the stampede. He has instructed the officials to provide proper treatment to the injured and requested the local officials and public representatives to visit the site of the incident and oversee the relief measures.

In a post on X, CM Naidu said, “The stampede incident at the Venkateswara Temple in Kashibugga in Srikakulam district has caused a shock. The death of devotees in this tragic incident is extremely heartbreaking. I express my deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. I have instructed the officials to provide speedy and proper treatment to those who have been injured. I have requested the local officials and public representatives to visit the site of the incident and oversee the relief measures.”
