SP, TMC to confront BJP without Congress in 2024 Lok Sabha polls

New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Akhilesh Yadav on Friday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at her residence in Kolkata.

After holding a crucial meeting, both the parties have exerted that they will be maintaining distance from the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

The meeting between two of the nation’s significant Opposition parties was highly looked upon.

“The Trinamool Congress will go its own way, maintaining distance from both the Congress and BJP,” said senior Trinamool Congress MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay.

Senior Trinamool Congress MP Sudeep Bandopadhyay stated that the party was not “talking about a third front at the time.”

Bandopadhyay also warned the Congress saying that the grand old party should not believe that it was the “big boss” of the Opposition.

The TMC leader further stated that the party is going to hold crucial talks with “powerful regional parties” to chalk out a strategy for 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

“We will go our own way, maintain distance from the Congress and the BJP. We are not talking about forming any third front at the moment… The Congress should not feel that it is the big boss of the opposition front,” said the TMC MP.

Meanwhile, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also echoed the TMC’s account of maintaining distance with the Congress and BJP.

“In Bengal, we are with Mamata didi. Right now, our stand is that we want to maintain equal distance from both the BJP and the Congress,” Yadav told reporters  on the sidelines of his party’s workers’ meet.

“The Samajwadi Party is ready to make any sacrifice to protect our Constitution. If we can defeat the BJP in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP can be defeated across the country,” he said.
