Sonia Gandhi was treated by Dr. Samiran Nundy, a renowned gastroenterology specialist. She turned 78 in December 2023. Her last major public appearance was on February 13, when she attended the Rajya Sabha during the Budget session of Parliament.
On February 10, Sonia Gandhi urged the government to complete the population census soon, saying that around 14 crore people in the country are missing out on benefits from the food security law.
In her first speech during Zero Hour in the Rajya Sabha, Sonia Gandhi said that people who should benefit from the National Food Security Act (NFSA) are being identified based on the 2011 Census, not the most recent population data.
She also called the NFSA, introduced by the UPA government in September 2013, a significant step to ensure food and nutrition security for the country's 140 crore people.
Despite her health challenges, Sonia Gandhi has been active in her political duties. She continues to play an important role in the Congress party, especially through her public statements and involvement in key discussions.
