Tragedy struck a family of four in Karnataka’s Doddaballapura on a fateful Saturday night. The family met a devastating end due to suffocation caused by the smoke emanating from burning charcoal that they had placed inside their room. The four people from West Bengal have placed a box of charcoal with the intention to keep warm and ward off mosquitoes, said the police.
Unaware of the dangers that awaited them, the family had shut the room’s doors before sleeping. As the hours passed, the room gradually filled with the noxious fumes generated by the smouldering charcoal. The combination of reduced oxygen levels and an elevated presence of carbon monoxide eventually claimed the lives of all four individuals, who succumbed while they were asleep.
One of the victims, Kale Sarera, was employed at a poultry farm. Concerned when Sarera failed to answer calls from his employer on Sunday morning, the farm owner visited their residence, only to discover the lifeless bodies of Sarera and his family members.
The local authorities have initiated an investigation into this tragic incident to determine the precise circumstances that led to this unfortunate loss of life.

In a similar incident that occurred last year, the smoke emitted from a coal brazier claimed the lives of two individuals while they were asleep. Sanjeev Joshi and a 25-year-old woman died as they slept inside a windowless room at the premises of a DLF-2 eatery. Meanwhile, two other women were found unconscious and taken to a hospital in the city.
