The Election Commission of India on Tuesday released Special Intensive Revision (SIR) data for Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh on December 23. Around 43 lakh names have been deleted in Madhya Pradesh, while 27 lakh names were eliminated from the voter list in Chhattisgarh.
The poll body said that 22 lakh names have been deleted in Kerala from the voter list.
In the next step, the verification process will take place, which is a contentious one, as political parties have raised objections to the entire process.
The draft rolls were released days after the poll body released the electoral data for Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Around 1.55 crore names were eliminated by the EC after the process of verification.
Madhya Pradesh
According to the updated list, 42,74,160 voters name have undergone deletions. The current tally of voters in the state, as of October 27, stands at 5,31,31,983 as of December 23, 2025, down from a total of 5,74,06,143 recorded in October 27, 2025, according to Joint Chief Electoral Officer of Madhya Pradesh, Ram Pratap Singh Jadon.
Among the deleted voters, 8,46,184 voters were found to have died, 8,42,677 voters were found absent/ untraceable (from their place of residence), 22,78,393 voters were shifted elsewhere; and 2,76,961 voters were already enrolled (duplication) and 29,927 others.
Apart from this there were around 8.65 lakh unmapped voters, whose names are present in the current electoral roll but data of these voters are not found in the record of 2003.
Kerala
As per the draft, 2,54,42,352 electors submitted their enumeration forms during the SIR exercise. This constitutes 91.35 per cent of the electorate of the state.
During the SIR excercise, 6,49,885 voters were found to be deceased, 14,61,769 electors had migrated or were not present at their residences, and 1,36,029 voters were found to be registered at multiple places.
Chhattisgarh
The poll body collected 1,84,95,920 enumeration forms from electors. The panel removed 6,42,234 names as deceased, 19,13,540 electors who had shifted or were not present, and 1,79,043 voters who were found to be enrolled at other locations as well.
The exercise will cover Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Kerala, Lakshadweep, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. Printing and training of officers took place from October 28 to November 3, followed by an Enumeration Phase from November 4 to December 4.
