Siliguri: Death Toll Reaches 8, 30 Injured As Kanchanjunga Express Collides With Goods Train

A Kanchenjunga Express train heading to Kolkata's Sealdah station was struck by a goods train in Siliguri, West Bengal. There have been no reported deaths from the accident so far.

Siliguri: Goods Train Collides with Kolkata-Bound Kanchanjuga Express

Eight people died, and nearly 30 others got injured when the Kanchanjunga Express train had an accident in Siliguri, Bengal, on Monday. The train was heading to Sealdah station in Kolkata when a goods train rear-ended it in the Rangapani area of Siliguri.

The collision occurred shortly after the Kanchanjunga Express departed from New Jalpaiguri Station on its way to Sealdah.

Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed concern about the accident and directed district officials to rush doctors and ambulances to the spot.

“I’m deeply saddened to hear about a tragic train accident in the Phansidewa area of Darjeeling district. Reports suggest that the Kanchenjunga Express was struck by a goods train. District officials, police, doctors, ambulances, and disaster response teams have been quickly dispatched to the scene to assist with rescue, recovery, and medical aid. Immediate action has been taken to address the situation,” she tweeted.

The train was heading to Sealdah station in Kolkata when a goods train rear-ended it in the Rangapani area of Siliguri.
