Gangtok: Seven Tourists have been killed and many others are reportedly trapped under snow after a massive avalanche near Nathu La mountains passes in Sikkim on Tuesday.

According to Indian Army, by 3 PM 14 tourists were rescued and taken to a nearby Army medical facility. However, seven people died and the other seven were returned to Gangtok after being administered first aid.

About 5-6 vehicles with approx 20-30 tourists on the way to Nathu la are feared to be trapped under the snow, said the Army. 

As per information, the avalanche struck around 12.15 pm at 14 miles in Jawaharlal Nehru road which connects Gangtok with Nathu La.

Indian Army along with dozen of local people are involved in rescue, a search operation is still on. 

Around 350 stranded tourists have been rescued so far after the snow was cleared from the road.
