On Wednesday, the arrest of a Hindu activist in connection with a 31-year-old case about the riots that occurred during the 1992 Ram Janmabhoomi rallies set off a bitter verbal exchange between the BJP and Congress in Karnataka. The Congress government used the arrest of activist Shrikanth Poojary as justification for its actions, branding him a criminal suspect facing several counts.

BJP Accuses Karnataka CM
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which has accused Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah of engaging in “vendetta politics” in advance of the opening of the recently built Ram Mandir in Ayodhya on January 22, has responded sharply to this.

However, Siddaramaiah has defended the detention, claiming that “it is just a coincidence that Srikanth Poojari was arrested before the Ram Mandir’s inauguration.”
What Government records say about Shrikanth Poojray
Government records show that arrested kar sevak Shrikant Poojary had previously been punished and even summoned multiple times, despite the Hubbali-Dharwad Police in Karnataka’s allegation that he had been missing since 1992 when the complaint was lodged.

In an interview, with ANI Poojray’s lawyer Sanjeev Badasaka discussed the case he said, “Yesterday argument happened, we convinced very well before the Court. The matter was posted for today for orders. We hope that the Court passes an order in our favour. If the Court passes an order in our favour then he may be released tomorrow evening…The matter has been posted for bail orders…Today by 2 pm, the Court will release an order.”
He further added that after getting a certified copy they have to produce the copy before the trial court. Which is another one-day-long process.
