A tragic shooting incident near a security forces post on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway has resulted in the death of a truck driver from Sopore. The victim, identified as Waseem Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Majid Mir, was pronounced dead at GMC Baramulla after being injured during the confrontation.
According to a statement released by the army, the incident unfolded when security forces established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) based on specific intelligence regarding potential terrorist activities. A civilian truck, approaching at high speed, failed to heed repeated warnings to stop and instead sped past the check post.
In response, army soldiers pursued the vehicle for over 23 kilometers. During the chase, shots were fired at the truck’s tires, successfully bringing it to a halt at Sangrama Chowk. After a thorough search of the vehicle, the injured driver was promptly transported to a medical facility, where he was later declared dead.
The truck, which was fully loaded, has been taken to the nearest police station for further examination. Authorities have initiated a detailed investigation into the incident, including a review of the driver’s previous records.
A senior police officer confirmed that an FIR has been registered at Baramulla police station and assured that a comprehensive investigation is underway. Post-mortem proceedings have also begun to determine the exact cause of death.
In light of the incident, officials have urged the public to remain calm and avoid spreading rumors or misinformation. The situation is being closely monitored as authorities work to ensure peace and stability in the region.
