A zero FIR has been filed in Bengaluru against accused lawyer Rakesh Kishore on Wednesday for attempting to throw a shoe at Chief Justice B.R. Gavai in the Supreme Court. The First Information Report was lodged following a formal complaint by the President of the All India Advocates’ Association, Bhaktavachala.
The Vidhana Soudha police registered the zero FIR against the 71-year-old advocate under Sections 132 (assault or use of criminal force against a public servant during duty) and 133 (assault or criminal force with intent to dishonour person) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Zero FIR can be filed at any police station, irrespective of where the offense is committed. According to the police, the case has been transferred to Tilak Marg police station, New Delhi.

According to the FIR, the incident took place in Court Hall No. 1 on October 6 in Delhi. Kishore had attempted to throw a shoe while Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai and Justice K. Vinodh Chandran were presiding. However, the attempt was foiled by the security.
“When it is happened in the Highest judiciary i.e to Chief Justice of India, the act of Rakesh Kishore is not pardonable and acceptable by any section of the society. In fact the act of Rakesh Kishore is punishable,” the complaint read. The association described the attack as a “grave incident” and urged immediate police action.
Earlier on Tuesday, the suspended Advocate claimed he was acting out of “hurt” and not under the influence of alcohol. His statement came after the incident emerged and shocked everyone in the country. Following the incident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to CJI Gavai and condemned the incident.
