The controversy revolves around Central Venous Catheters— which are critical medical devices used for complex surgeries to administer medication through the neck. These catheters are important for patient care, Recent report reveals supply of substandard products were taking place instead of the high-quality devices mandated by tenders.
Allegations Against the Supply Chain
According to sources, significant irregularities in the procurement process. As per Protocol orders should be placed directly with the multinational company, after that it ensures the supply via its distributor.
Tender supply of catheters to hospital
As per sources, Vygon, which is a multinational company, was given the tender to supply premium-quality catheters to hospitals in the state. However, the local distributor was allegedly supplying catheters of low grade and poorly manufactured. This has affected several prominent hospitals, which includes SSKM, MR Bangur Hospital, and Bankura Medical College.
This has raised major concerns on Vygon’s local management role. Vygon is situated in Gurugram near Delhi. And it has also raised concern over their oversight and possible complicity in malafide distribution process. The company Indian subsidiary includes three directors of French origin and only one of Indian origin who is also their Managing Director.
Troubling Patterns Emerge
Trying to attempt seeming cover ups the Managing Director has reportedly issued gag orders to its employees.
