MP Sanjay Raut Gets 15-Day Jail: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut has been sentenced to 15-day jail by Metropolitan Magistrate’s 25th Court on Thursday. He has been convicted in a defamation case filed by a BJP leader’s wife.

Sanjay Raut Slapped With Rs 25,000- Fine
The case was filed by Dr. Medha Kirit Somaiya, Kirit Somaiya’s wife after Sanjay Raut allegedly made defamatory remarks against her. The Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP allegedly accused the couple of being involved in a 100-crore corruption case related to the construction of public toilets in the areas under the jurisdiction of Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation. Raut has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 25,000.
Dr. Somaiya filed the case in May 2022, seeking criminal defamation charges against Raut under Section 499 of the Indian Penal Code.
Somaiya Demands Compensation Of Rs 1 Crore
Medha, a professor of organic chemistry at Ruia College in Mumbai for the past 20 years, requested the court to order Raut to pay her Rs 1 crore, or any other amount the court considers appropriate, as damages to the chief minister’s relief fund or any other place the court finds suitable.
