Srinagar: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday claimed she was under house arrest and was not being allowed to go for a wedding in Pattan. The police, however, refuted her claim.

Claiming that she was put under house arrest, the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister said that she was scheduled to visit Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district to attend a party worker wedding ceremony on Wednesday.

Mufti made this claim while linking her house arrest to union minister Amit Shah’s visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

“While HM is going around Kashmir beating drums of normalcy, I am under house arrest for simply wanting to visit Pattan for a worker’s wedding”, the former Chief Minister said in a tweet.

However, the Srinagar Police denied the claim saying that: “It is clarified that no restriction of any kind (of) travel to Pattan, travel to Pattan was at 1 pm as intimated to us.”

On a photo shared by the PDP leader, the Srinagar Police further said: The picture tweeted by her is of inside of the gate with own lock of residents who stay in the bunglow. There is no lock or any restrictions. She is free to travel.

“I was informed last night by SP Baramulla Bhatray that I wouldn’t be allowed to travel to Pattan. Today they locked my gates from inside & are now lying through their teeth. Sad that law enforcement agencies are brazenly trying to cover up their tracks,” Mehbooba Mufti in another tweet.

Amit Shah, who is on a three day visit to Jammu and Kashmir, is scheduled to address a public rally at Baramulla on Wednesday.
