New Delhi: Protest errupted soon after senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Sharad Pawar Tuesday announced his retirement from the chief’s post of the party; founded in 1999 by himself.

Pawar’s decision sent shockwaves throughout the nation that made his dire supporters unhappy, who hit the roads within hours to plead that Pawar should rethink his decision.

“Workers across the country are not agreeing with this decision of Sharad Pawar. We have decided that we will continue to make efforts to change his mind. It is our decision that he will remain the National President of NCP till his last breath,” said party leader Anil Bhaidas Patil.

Many party workers gathered outside YB Chavan Centre in Mumbai to urge veteran leader Pawar not to leave the post. The protestors raised slogans and hailed their mentor Pawar, that concerned the party leaders Supriya Sule and Ajit Pawar who had to meet the protesting workers to convince them to call off their sit-in.

National president of the NCP Women’s Wing, Fauzia Khan said, “…There is not a single worker in NCP who accepts this decision. We are all urging Pawar Sahab to take back his decision…”

“There were no talks about it (Sharad Pawar’s resignation) in the party. I asked him, why didn’t he consult us? All the prominent leaders (from the party) will go to him and will try to persuade him,” said NCP MP Praful Patel.
