Srinagar: Security forces shot dead an unidentified militant in an ongoing encounter in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Monday.

Gun battle erupted during a cordon and search operation in the Heff Shirmal area of the district. The search operation started following information about the presence of militants there, police officials said.

“#ShopianEncounterUpdate: 01 #terrorist killed. #Operation in progress. Further details shall follow,” police tweeted.

Reports suggest that one security force personnel was also injured in the encounter. The officials said that the operation is still going on.
