Security forces on Friday busted a terror hideout in the Neeriyan Forest area near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowgam sector of north Kashmir’s Handwara, leading to a major recovery of arms and ammunition, officials said.
Based on specific intelligence inputs, a joint operation was launched by the Handwara Police and the Naugam Brigade of the Indian Army in the dense forest area along the LoC. During the search, the team unearthed a secret hideout and seized a large cache of weapons, including two M-series rifles with four magazines, two Chinese-made pistols with three magazines, two hand grenades, and several live rounds.
A police spokesperson said that the recovery has averted a possible terror plot in the northern district of Valley. “The timely operation has prevented potential militant activity in the sector,” the official said, adding that security forces remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt peace in the area.
A case under relevant sections has been registered at Police Station Qalamabad and further investigation has been initiated.
