The proposed metro route from Greater Noida Depot to Bodaki has received symbolic consent (not in writing) from the Central Government, due to which it is expected to get approval soon, as reported by Hindustan. On the other hand, the proposed metro project from Sector-51 to Knowledge Park-5 is currently stalled. The main reason for this is that the route of the Namo Bharat Train has not been finalized yet.
In November 2019, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet gave the green signal to the metro route from Sector-61 to Knowledge Park-5 in Greater Noida West. This route was proposed via Sector-51 towards Baba Balaknath Temple (Sector-72) and Parthala roundabout. But the central government rejected this route due to the unbalanced connection of the Aqua and Blue Line at Sector-51.
About three years ago, a new route was proposed which goes from Sector-51 to Sector-61, 71 and 121 to Parthala roundabout. The state government had approved the DPR of this route and sent it to the Centre six months ago, but the Centre is not showing any activity at the moment. The reason for this is the route of the Namo Bharat train which is not yet decided, which is planned to be taken to Jewar Airport via Greater Noida West via Ghaziabad.
Will The Metro Run Only Till Sector-2?
According to officials, if the Namo Bharat train goes to Jewar via Greater Noida West, then in such a situation the metro can run from Sector-51 only till Sector-2 of Greater Noida. For this, the DPR will have to be prepared and approved again. There has been a demand for bringing the metro to Greater Noida West for a long time, and this project has also been changed many times.
Hope Of Relief For A Population Of More Than Three Lakh
At present, an estimated three lakh people are living in Greater Noida West, and the population is likely to increase further in the coming five years. There is a traffic jam situation throughout the day from Kisan Chowk to Ek Murti. People take cabs and autos at expensive fares. According to local residents, metro service is extremely necessary in this area.
How Local Residents Reacted
Sector-2 resident Rajeev Kumar said that metro is most needed on the 130 meter road of Greater Noida West, because it is very difficult to reach Noida Metro. Whereas Gaur City resident Harish Khurana says that he spends 150 to 200 rupees daily to travel to and from Sector-51, due to which he has to bear the financial burden.
