Chandigarh: As part of the ongoing crackdown on illegal immigration under US President Donald Trump, a second round of deportations will be made on Saturday around 10 pm. At Least 119 illegal Indian immigrants are expected to arrive at Punjab’s Amritsar Airport. According to reports, among the deported passengers on board the C-17 US military aircraft, 67 are from Punjab, 33 from Haryana, 8 from Gujarat, 3 from Uttar Pradesh, 2 each from Maharashtra and Rajasthan, and one native each from Goa, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.
Official sources stated that the third flight carrying illegal Indian deportees is also expected to land tomorrow, February 16, 2025. The deportations are likely to continue until all the immigrants are sent back. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday raised strong objections regarding the Central Government’s move to land another plane at the Amritsar airport, questioning if they are trying to defame Punjab.
The deportation comes at a time when Prime Minister Narendra Modi is back in India after concluding his France and US visit. US President Donald Trump hosted PM Modi for talks at the White House on Friday, February 14, 2025, during which they discussed various global issues. Last Week, 104 illegal Indian Immigrants were deported handcuffed and shackled from the US. On the question, whether they will be sent handcuffed and shackled again, it is expected that the US may be a little more humane this time, especially after the Prime Minister’s visit.
