Search for WPD chief: IGP Punjab, Sukhchain Singh Gill on Monday organised a press conference and informed that Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh is still absconding, however, police are making all efforts to arrest him.
“Several rumours are being spread. Punjab Police is clearly stating that the arrest is yet to be made & efforts are underway to arrest him”, said IGP Punjab.
He further said that the police have a strong suspicion of an ISI angle, based on the facts that come into light so far.
“Going by the circumstances, it seems that ISI is involved and there is foreign funding as well. The bulletproof jackets and rifles that have been recovered and the gate (of the house) of the chief (Amritpal Singh) had AKF written on them. There was an attempt to form a Jathebandi called ‘Anandpur Khalsa Fauj”, said IGP Punjab, Sukhchain Singh Gill.

The spokesperson further said that strict action as per law will be taken if anyone is found spreading fake news, rumours and hate speech. All citizens, media persons and social media platform intermediaries are requested to act in a responsible manner and to fact-check the authenticity of the content being shared by them on various social media, electronic media and print media platforms, he added.

He also appealed to the citizens not to pay attention to any fake news and rumours and to fact-check authenticity from the police. All mischievous elements attempting to disrupt peace and harmony in the state shall be dealt with strictly, he added. He further assured Punjab Police is committed to maintaining law & order and rule of law in the state.
