SCO members meet: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov reached at Dabolim airport in Goa on Thursday morning to attend the two-day long meeting of foreign ministers of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The SCO meet is organised in the coastal State of Goa. Lavrov was accompanied by a delegation. After attending the meeting, Lavrov will hold a bilateral meeting with Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday.
The foreign ministers of China and Pakistan are among those who will personally attend the meeting. It is being said that the two ministers will discuss several important geopolitical issues, including economic cooperation and regional security with SCO members. Lavrov is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other SCO countries.
Lavrov’s second visit
This is the second time this year that Lavrov has visited India. Earlier, he had attended the G20 Foreign Ministers’ meeting in New Delhi in March. According to the information, India will also host a cultural program and dinner for its counterparts from China, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan on Thursday evening.
The SCO foreign ministers’ meeting on Friday assumes significance as it is taking place against the backdrop of rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine.
