Imphal: Manipur Chief Minister N Birten Singh on Tuesday announced that Schools up to class 8 would be reopened from July 5 amid tight security.
Addressing a press brief, CM said the state government had decided to deploy personnel of state police and paramilitary forces
“We have decided to deploy state security forces and paramilitary forces in the vulnerable areas. We will deploy more security forces in five particular districts. The classes from 1 to 8 standards will commence from July 5,” said M Biren Singh.
In the wake of the extremely turbulent situation in the state for the past 2 months, the schools have remained closed from the first week of May.
The ethnic violence erupted after Kuki tribes called for a protest against a proposal to gve tribal status to the majority Meitei community. The violence has claimed as many as 118 lives and displaced over 40,000 so far.
Thousands of people are still in various relief camps.
