Schools, colleges closed in Jammu and Kashmir due to…, check details here

Due to the extreme cold, dense fog, and snowfall, schools in hilly regions of Jammu and Kashmir will remain closed from December 8 to December 14. The winter vacation schedule for 2025-26 has been released for all classes.

Cold weather conditions have prevailed across North India on Sunday, and the Amarnath Yatra has been the coldest recorded at -4.3 degrees Celsius. The Pahalgam resort in South Kashmir, which is specifically known as the base camp of the Amarnath yatra, was recorded as the coldest palace in Jammu and Kashmir till now, as it settled for 4.3 degrees Celsius. The IMD predicted that the weather would remain cloudy but dry with a spell of snowfall at the isolated places in the higher parts of North and Central Kashmir.

Will schools remain shut in Jammu and Kashmir?

Dropping temperatures and dense fog in the north have prompted authorities in the Jammu and Kashmir winter zone to enforce a long holiday. Schools situated in hilly regions will remain closed from December 8 to December 14 due to intense cold wave conditions, fog, and a spell of snowfall. The announcement came as relief for students and parents who are struggling with severe cold conditions.

The administration has released the winter vacation schedule for this season as follows:

  • Pre-primary classes: November 26, 2025, to February 28, 2026
  • Classes 1 to 8: December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026
  • Classes 9 to 12: December 11, 2025, to February 22, 2026

Cold wave conditions in THESE states

Along with this, some parts of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan report the minimum temperature between 3 to 7 degrees Celsius. IMD said that the cold wave conditions were ‘very likely’ to prevail in some parts of Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha in Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha for the next two days. The max temperature was 24.7 degrees Celsius, 0.1 degrees below normal, with humidity in the morning.

Delhi recorded its minimum temperature this time

The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius on Friday, slightly higher than Thursday’s 6.8 degrees but still 1.6 degrees below the season’s average. The maximum temperature touched 24.7 degrees Celsius, just 0.1 degrees under normal. Humidity levels were high this morning, with the relative humidity recorded at 92 %.
