The petitioners urged the apex court to issue directions to the state governments so the latter establish regulations that provides leave to the female students and workers. The PIL also drew notice on the Section 14 of the Maternity Benefit Act that involves the appointment of inspectors to enforce the Act's provisions. It asked the top court foreffective implemention of the same. As per an online research, mentioned the plea, only Meghalaya had issued a notice in 2014 for the appointment of such officers. Meanwhile, Bihar was the only state to provide special leave benefits under a 1992 policy. Denying the menstrual leave to female in the remaing states, is a violation of their right to equality under Article 14 of the Constitution, stated the plea.Read More :- Latest India News
