SC seeks Centre’s response over censoring controversial BBC documentary

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday sought a repsonse from the Centre over a plea requesting to restrain the central government from censoring the BBC documentary relating to the 2002 Gujarat Riots.

The Narendra Modi-led central government has been asked to submit response within a period of three weeks. The matter has been posted in April for hearing.

The plea was filed by senior journalist N Ram, TMC MP Mahua Moitra and Advocate Prashant Bhushan. Appearing for the appelants, senior advocate CU Singh submitted that, “this is a case where emergency powers invoked without putting orders in public domain.”

He also pointed out that the tweets sharing the links of documentary have been blocked.
