Before the Kanwar Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, shopkeepers selling food, beverages, and fruits in Muzaffarnagar have been instructed to display their names prominently. Not only that, but they are also required to display the names of their staff. The local administration states that this is to ensure customers know from whom they are purchasing goods, avoiding any confusion. This directive has sparked significant discussion. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has extended this mandate across the state. The impact of this order is already visible, with shopkeepers in Muzaffarnagar putting up their names in front of their stores.
The day after the Muzaffarnagar police’s directive, there were noticeable changes on the Delhi-Dehradun National Highway-58 passing through the area. A tea stall previously named ‘Chai Lover Point’, run by a Muslim man named Faheem, has now been renamed ‘Vakil Ahmad Tea Stall’ following the police order. Faheem mentioned that this directive will significantly affect his business during the Kanwar Yatra.
According to Faheem, the police approached him and said that, with the Kanwar Yatra approaching, he needed to display his name on his shop. Consequently, he changed the name from ‘Chai Lover Point’ to either ‘Faheem Tea Stall’ or ‘Vakil Ahmad Tea Stall’.

Meanwhile, a roadside eatery that has been operating under the name ‘Sangam Shuddh Bhojanalay’ for 25 years has now been renamed ‘Salim Shuddh Shakahari Bhojanalay’ following the police order. The eatery, located in Muzaffarnagar district, was known as Sangam Shuddh Bhojanalay for a quarter-century, but the administration has mandated the change.
On the other hand, Lokesh Bharti, the owner of Sakshi Hotel on the Delhi-Dehradun Highway, reported that two police officers visited him and instructed him to display the name of his hotel prominently. They also required that the names of the hotel staff be displayed. Following this directive, Bharti has temporarily removed four Muslim workers from his establishment.
