There are several expressway projects, which will soon be opened to the public. One cush project is the Magpur-Mumbai Expressway. This expressway is commonly known as ‘Samruddhi Mahamarg’.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be inaugurating the final section of this expressway on June 5. The total length of the Samruddhi Mahamarg is 701 km.
The final section of the expressway will link Igatpuri in Nashik to Amane in Thane. Once the final route is open to the public, it will boost the connectivity and mark the completion of the project.
The route will be opened for traffic on the same day, confirmed Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) managing director Anil Gaikwad and officials from the Chief Minister’s Office, as reported by Hindustan Times. Gaikwad said all the construction work of the final phase is now complete.
About The ‘Samruddhi Mahamarg’
Built at Rs 1,182 crore, the stretch is jointly funded by MSRDC and the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). It has three main interchanges at Igatpuri, Kutghar in Shahapur, and Amane near Thane. Also, the section is part of India’s longest road tunnel, which stretches for 7.8 km through the Kasara Ghat.
This new section offers a significant improvement over the current Mumbai-Nashik route. Earlier, motorists had to travel 450 metres through the narrow and winding roads of Kasara Ghat, but now this expressway reduces the distance to just 160 metres and reduces the travel time between Igatpuri to Amane from 90 minutes to just 40 minutes.
