Work on the 76-km stretch of the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Expressway has been completed. The total length of this expressway is 701 km. Vehicle traffic on the entire 701-km expressway will become operational once the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) grants clearance, expected by mid-March. Currently, motorists can travel on the 625-km stretch between the expressway’s entry point at Igatpuri, near Nashik, and Nagpur.
According to Free Press Journal, Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation confirmed that 16 construction companies have completed the final stretch, but the expressway’s connection road, built by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), is still under construction. The remaining work is scheduled for completion by March 10.
When Did Construction Of The Route Begin?
Construction of the expressway began in November 2015 and was executed in 16 phases. Once fully operational, the Samruddhi Expressway will significantly reduce travel time, allowing commuters to reach Nagpur from Mumbai in just eight hours. The project will also enhance connectivity, linking Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai to Nagpur’s Multimodal International Airport through a well-developed network.
When Was The Samruddhi Expressway Project Inaugurated?
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 520-km stretch of the route from Nagpur to Shirdi on December 11, 2022. Subsequently, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inaugurated a 105-km stretch from Shirdi to Bharvir on May 23, 2023. On March 4, an additional 25-km stretch from Bharvir to Igatpuri was opened for traffic without a formal inauguration ceremony.
