It was in the year 1681 that he, the eldest son of Shivaji Maharaj, Ascended the throne. His reign is renowned for protecting and expanding the grasp of the Maratha empire despite constant challenges from Mughal invasions.
Amongst his various military campaigns, one of the most ambitious ones was the attack on Burhanpur. It was in the year 1689 that he was captured by the Mughals and henceforth relegated to brutal torments for days on end before being executed on March 11. His courage and bravery knew no bounds and even in the face of death he refused to surrender or compromise on his beliefs.
