Azam Khan News- Senior Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan was released on Tuesday, September 23, after spending two years in Sitapur Jail in Uttar Pradesh. This comes after his bail was approved by the Allahabad High Court in the high-profile Quality Bar land grab case in Rampur. This decision cleared the way for the SP leader’s release from jail. The court had reserved its decision after the hearing on August 21 and granted bail on September 18.
The jail authorities on Monday had received the release order from the Rampur court in the final pending case against him. While he was expected to walk free at 7 am on Tuesday, as per reports his release was delayed due to the non-payment of the court-imposed fine. Now, he has been finally released after being granted bail in all cases against him.

Azam Khan’s son, Adeeb Azam, had arrived at Sitapur Jail to receive him. He refused to comment anything on his father’s release. Earlier in morning, Khan’s supporters, who had arrived in large numbers at the district jail, were removed by police. Instructions were given to remove vehicles belonging to Khan’s supporters parked on the roads. The district jail has been transformed into a cantonment for security reasons.
In anticipation of his release, security had been heightened in Rampur. Police forces were on alert, and special surveillance was conducted by the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) at Khan’s residence and among his close associates late last night. Earlier this morning, officials at Sitapur Jail confirmed that the release order had arrived.
What is Rampur Quality Bar land case?
Speaking to ANI, Azam Khan’s advocate, Mohammad Khalid earlier stated that with this bail, there are no pending cases keeping him in jail, suggesting he’s likely to be released soon. “So, there’s no pending case that would keep him in jail. As of today, bail has been granted in all the cases. This process may take two to three days. As of now, there are no other pending cases.” said Khalid.
Explaining the Quality Bar land case, Khalid said that the allegations claimed Azam Khan misused his power as a Cabinet Minister in 2013 to allot land to a family member. The Quality Bar land case was related to a society that owned a building called Quality Bar and owned some land. The allegation was that when Khan was a Cabinet Minister in 2013, he misused his power and, through his influence on society, allotted this land on lease to a family member. An FIR was filed in 2019, and a further investigation was conducted in 2024, in which Khan was named as an accused.
