In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, Alok Ranjan of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured victory in the Saharsa constituency by defeating Lovely Anand of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) with a margin of 19,679 votes. The Saharsa Assembly seat is part of the Madhepura Lok Sabha constituency.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Dinesh Chandra Yadav of the Janata Dal (United) won the Madhepura parliamentary seat by a margin of 1,74,534 votes, defeating Kumar Charandeep from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The situation is tough for IIP candidate Indrajeet Prasad Gupta, who is currently in second place in Saharsa. BJP’s Alok Ranjan holds a strong lead, ahead by 6,794 votes.
Alok Ranjan is ahead in the Saharsa seat with 16,198 votes so far, maintaining a lead over IIP candidate Indrajeet Prasad Gupta, who has received 12,731 votes.
So far, BJP’s Alok Ranjan is ahead in Saharsa with 7,966 votes, while IIP candidate Indrajeet Prasad Gupta trails with 6,192 votes.

RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav is ahead in Raghopur, BJP’s Samrat Choudhary leads in Tarapur and Maithili Thakur in Alinagar, while JD(U)’s Vijay Kumar Choudhary is leading in Sarairanjan and Shrawon Kumar in Nalanda.
