Sabarmati Express: 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express (Train number 19168), traveling towards Ahmedabad, derailed near Kanpur on Saturday (August 17, 2024) in the early hours. According to Indian Railways, the accident occurred around 3 AM when the coaches went off track in the block section between Kanpur and Bhimsen station.
Key details about the accident
Authorities reported that the train en route from Varanasi to Ahmedabad derailed on the holding line just before reaching Govind Puri near Kanpur. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported. The train driver suggested that the derailment might have been caused by a boulder hitting the engine, which caused significant damage to the guard. Passengers transported to Kanpur
Railway officials arrived at the scene later that night. All passengers of the Sabarmati Express were safely transported to Kanpur by bus from the accident site.

Just six days ago, a stampede occurred on the Punjab Mail Express in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. On Sunday, Train No. 13006, traveling from Howrah to Amritsar, faced chaos between Bareilly and Katra stations. Passengers, fearing a fire, jumped off while the train was on a river bridge. The pilot stopped the train and alerted authorities. After a thorough inspection, no suspicious items were found. The train remained at Katra station for 45 minutes before continuing, and injured passengers were taken to the hospital.
