In a shocking incident, a farmer from Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district was forced to travel to Cambodia and sell his kidney after a loan of Rs 1 lakh soared into a debt of Rs 74 lakh, combined with exorbitant interest charges.
The farmer, identified as Roshan Sadashiv Kude, had allegedly taken multiple small loans from local moneylenders, aggregating to Rs 1 lakh. According to reports, after suffering repeated losses in farming, Kude wanted to start a dairy business. However, before his business could become sustainable, the cows he had bought died. Additionally, his crops failed, pushing him into deeper financial distress.
Farmer sells off agricultural land, tractor and other assets
Kude alleged that the moneylenders started harassing his family as the loan amount soared, adding a daily interest charge of Rs 10,000. To settle the debt, he sold his farm land, tractor, and other household possessions, but the amount fell far short of what he was supposed to repay.

Kude claimed that one of the moneylenders suggested that he sell his kidney to settle the full loan. With the help of an agent, he was first taken to Kolkata for conducting medical tests. Thereafter, he travelled to Cambodia, where he was forced to sell his kidney for Rs 8 lakh.
The farmer further alleged that despite filing a police complaint, no action was taken. He has now warned that he, along with his family, will resort to self-immolation outside Mumbai’s Mantralaya if justice is not delivered.
Kude names six moneylenders
Kude has allegedly named six moneylenders in connection with the case: Pradeep Bawankule, Sanjay Ballarpure, Kishore Bawankule, Laxman Urkude, Manish Kalbande, and Laxman Borkar. All are identified as residents of Brahmapuri town.
