India was once known for its bad roads, and driving could be a real challenge. Car manufacturers even had to create special suspensions for Indian roads to handle the rough conditions. However, things are changing fast! With the country’s road infrastructure improving rapidly, India is set to redefine road travel with three new expressways that will make traveling faster, smoother, and more efficient. These modern expressways will also offer beautiful views along the way.
Delhi-Mumbai Expressway
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to be India’s longest greenfield expressway, stretching a total of 1,350 km. This expressway has 8 lanes, and it can later be expanded to 12 lanes. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari confirmed in June 2024 that the expressway is already 82% complete, and it is expected to be finished by October this year.
The expressway will run through Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. Once it is fully operational, it will cut down the travel time between Delhi and Mumbai to around 24 hours, making travel between the two cities faster and more convenient.
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway
The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is another major project. Dehradun has always been a popular weekend getaway for people from Delhi, as well as a gateway to the beautiful state of Uttarakhand. This expressway is being built at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore and will start from Faridabad and connect Kalindi Kunj and Akshardham in Delhi. From there, it will take an elevated route to cross Delhi and lead to Dehradun.
With this new expressway, the travel time between Delhi and Dehradun will be reduced from 6 hours to just 3 hours.
Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway
The Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway is also under construction, and part of it is already open and toll-free. Once completed in August 2025, the full 260-kilometer expressway will reduce the travel time between Bengaluru and Chennai from the current 6 hours to just 3 hours. The total cost of building this expressway is Rs 17,900 crore.
Why These Expressways Matter
These new expressways are important because they will not only make road travel faster but also safer and more comfortable. The smoother roads and quicker travel times will improve connectivity between major cities and states, making life easier for everyone, from daily commuters to tourists. Plus, the beautiful views along these highways will make long drives more enjoyable.
With these new expressways, India is definitely on its way to improving the road travel experience for everyone.
