After a 13-year-old boy was accused of raping a minor girl in the Reva district of Madhya Pradesh, the police administration, educationists and psychologists got confused. They were perplexed about how and why the teenager got involved in such a crime. What inspired the boy to allegedly rape the girl, how did he get the horrific idea and how did he dare to execute it. It also raised the question of whether a 13-year-old boy is mentally, psychologically and physically capable of such a horrendous crime.
80 Rape Accused Below 12 Years
According to the National Crime Record Bureau, 3,40,168 juveniles committed crimes from 2013 to 2022. It has also been found that as many as 13 states have reported more than 10,000 cases. The data also suggest that during 2017 and 2021, more than 7,000 rape cases were lodged against people in the age group of 17 to 21. Out of this figure, 1,756 were in the gar bracket of 12 to 16 years. It was shocking to know that 80 accused were under 12.
Reason for Teenager Rape
The NCRB data are devastating. What may be the reason for such horrendous crime at this age? According to NGO Evolve Treatment, 90 of boys below and 60 of girls below the age of 18 admitted to have watched porn films.
Why Do Teenagers Watch Adult Content?
What may be the reasons behind such a scenario that teenagers watch pornographic content? Doctors have said that between the ages of 13 and 18, a chemical called Serotonin is released inside the body. This chemical carries messages between nerve cells in the brain and body. It affects many human functions, like mood, memory, appetite, sleep, and pain perception. It also excites sexual desire and urge.
Psychologists dealing with child behavior have said that minors, who watch porn regularly behave aggressively. Such teenagers also show abnormal characteristics such as anger, sadism, perversion, sexual coercion, or just sexual gratification.
Elaborating on this issue, psychologists have also said that such teenagers become potential predators.
What Do Psychologists Say About Teenage Rape?
Psychologists believe that working parents don’t find time to spend with their children as they remain occupied with their professional commitments. The children of such parents resort to porn to cope with aloofness and isolation.
Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is something that keeps on building particularly among the children in the age bracket of 13 years and 18 years. Doctors have also opined that hormonal changes are also to be blamed for sexual desire and urge.
Cheap Internet
The availability of cheap and fast internet facilities is also responsible for porn addiction. The cumulative impact of fast upwardly mobile life patterns, busy parents with no time for their children, human physiology, and peer pressure lead teenagers to a porn addiction that inspires them to commit horrendous crimes like rape.
