The Congress-AAP alliance talks for the Haryana Assembly polls have come to a halt on Friday, after sources claimed that Congress leaders are unwilling to share seats with Aam Aadmi Party in Haryana.
AAP sources suggest that there may be no deal for the October 5 Haryana Assembly polls, if Congress insists on sticking to the current seat-sharing arrangement. Amid the escalating tension between both the parties, AAP is expected to release its first list for the upcoming polls on Sunday.
Sources claimed that the alliance talks are close to breaking down, if Congress hesitates to give more seats to AAP. This disagreement may result in AAP contesting 50 out of 90 constituencies on its own.
Congress’s Reluctance To Allocate More Seats To AAP
Congress hesitation to give more seats to AAP can be attributed to AAP’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections. While AAP lost one contested seat, Congress won five out of nine, preventing the BJP from making a clean sweep.
Haryana Assembly elections will be held on October 5 and candidates need to file their nominations by September 12. The Election Commission has fixed October 1 to October 5 as a day to honor the voting traditions of the Bishnoi community.
Akhilesh Yadav Hints At Not Contesting Haryana Elections
In a social media post, Samajwadi Party Leader wrote “INDI Allaince unity has the potential to make history in Haryana elections. We have always said and will continue to say that it is not about number of seats but about winning . If any party of INDI Alliance is capable of defeating BJP’s negative, communal and divisive politics which harms Haryana’s development and unity, we will support them.”
Amid speculation over whether the Samajwadi Party will field candidates in the Haryana Assembly elections, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday suggested that his party might not compete Haryana Polls to maintain the unity of INDI Alliance.
