RG Kar Case: The Central Bureau of Investigation, on Sunday, said that the former principal of RG Kar Medical College, Dr. Sandip Ghosh, might be involved in a larger conspiracy behind the rape and murder of the trainee doctor. The central investigating agency said this in a Kolkata court while continuing its investigation into the tragic incident in which Dr. Ghosh and Tala Police Station’s officer-in-charge, Abhijit Mondal, were arrested a day ago.

Alleged Misconduct And Tampering With Evidence
The CBI alleged that Ghosh and Mondal played an important role in mishandling the case. The agency said that both individuals tried to play down the gravity of the crime and protect the perpetrators. The CBI said Ghosh reached the spot at 11 a.m., but the FIR was lodged only after 11 p.m. It is, however under scanner this delay in registering the FIR. The call records of CBI raise suspicion for a possible conspiracy through Mondal and Ghosh.

Arrests And Custodial Interrogation
Pointing to a previous arrest related to financial impropriety, the CBI’s counsel pointed out the fact that Dr Ghosh stands accused of evidence tampering as well. Mondal was arrested for interfering with the investigation of rape and murder. The CBI had requested custodial interrogation of both the suspects to unravel the full extent of the involvement. The court granted a three-day custody of the two persons. During this period, the CBI has planned to question both individuals together.

Court Hearings And Next Court Dates
The case has drawn much attention, with the Calcutta High Court and also the Supreme Court questioning the delay in filing FIR. Now, 14 hours after the doctor’s body was found, there remains a question mark over the way the RG Kar Medical College administration is handling the case. The next court date will be on September 17 and more developments will be discussed.

Investigation Continues
These are the first big steps by the CBI in this case after conducting a month-long probe. Earlier, the Kolkata Police had arrested a civic volunteer, Sanjoy Roy, who then came into the custody of the CBI. Now the CBI assures to decipher every move behind the incident and punish every responsible.
