When you book a holiday in Lakshadweep, you’ll enjoy serene beaches, coral reefs, and lush greenery. An Uttar Pradesh restaurant sweetens the deal by offering free ‘chhole bhature’ with every Lakshadweep booking or canceled Maldives trip. As numerous Indians opt to cancel their Maldives trips on booking portals, not only are they securing a refund, but there’s also a culinary bonus waiting for them: a serving of the humble ‘chhole bhature.’ This offer is exclusively available in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

Joining the #BoycottMaldives movement, a restaurant chain in Noida and Ghaziabad is extending a special offer. They are providing a complimentary plate of their signature ‘chhole bhature’ to individuals who have either booked a trip to Lakshadweep or decided to cancel their plans to visit the Maldives. Regarding the distinctive advertisement, the owner of the restaurant chain mentioned that the inspiration for the offer stemmed from derogatory remarks made by Maldivian ministers against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The owner of the Noida-based restaurant, Vijay Mishra, expressed that the unique offer aims to boost tourism in Lakshadweep. The scheme, initiated on Saturday, has received a positive response, with 10 people in the NCR region already taking advantage of the promotion and expressing appreciation. Mishra mentioned plans to extend the scheme until the end of January. “It’s not only about doing business, but about showing support to the country and its tourism sector,” he further emphasized.

In the past two weeks, there have been numerous reports of cancellations for hotel bookings and flight tickets to the Maldives. In contrast, flight tickets to Lakshadweep’s Agatti Islands have witnessed high demand, with bookings sold out until March.

The trend began with Prime Minister Modi’s unrelated visit to Lakshadweep, where images of the pristine landscape were shared. Online discussions and media reports then linked the promotion of Lakshadweep as a tourist destination to counter the Maldives. This drew negative reactions from three Maldivian lawmakers, who posted derogatory and racist comments against Indians and PM Modi.

The situation prompted a travel booking portal to suspend all Maldives flight bookings and triggered various advertising campaigns, including the ‘chole bhature’ offer.
