Republic Day 2025: Srinagar came alive with patriotic fervor on January 26, 2023, as locals and tourists gathered to celebrate Republic Day in a historic way. For the first time in two decades, Bakshi Stadium was filled to capacity, marking a significant milestone in the region’s celebrations following the formation of the government last year.
The atmosphere was electric as families, friends, and people from all walks thronged the stadium to witness the Republic Day parade, showcasing a renewed spirit of enthusiasm among the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The event not only highlighted national pride but also served as a testament to the region’s resilience and unity.
In addition to the vibrant celebrations at Bakshi Stadium, tourists flocked to the iconic Clock Tower, known locally as “Ghanta Ghar,” where they unfurled the tricolor in a display of solidarity. The scene was heartwarming, with visitors capturing selfies and videos to immortalize their experience. Just five years ago, public displays of patriotism at this landmark were restricted, making this year’s celebrations all the more poignant.
After taking the salute at the parade, Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Kumar Choudhary addressed the crowd at Bakshi Stadium, reaffirming the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises made by the Omar-led Government. He emphasized the urgent need for the restoration of statehood and protection of land and job rights for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, as pledged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders.
National Conference (NC) President Dr. Farooq Abdullah also attended the celebrations at Bakshi Stadium, extending his congratulations to the nation while echoing calls for swift action on the promise of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.
