An 18-year-old woman athlete was allegedly raped by over sixty people in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district in the last six years, said police, adding that she was subjected to multiple gang rapes.
Following the allegations of the athlete, Kerala police arrested 28 people so far, and 13 FIRs, including nine at Elavumthitta police station and four at Pathanamthitta police station, were registered on Sunday on the basis of her complaint. Earlier, five FIRs were registered.
Police said that a team of 25 members of the police will investigate the case. “Police are collecting scientific evidence in all the cases registered in the incident,” said South Zone DIG Ajeetha Begum Sultan.
In one of the cases, she was befriended by a social media friend when she was a class 12 student. “The suspect took her to an isolated place in a rubber plant and allegedly sexually abused her in a car along with five of his friends,” said police.
In another case, four people allegedly gang-raped her near the government general hospital in Pathanamthitta last year. Police said that in all the cases, an investigation is underway to nab the suspects.
