Renowned folk singer and Padma Bhushan recipient Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday night at the age of 72. She was admitted to AIIMS Delhi for treatment. Earlier, it was informed that she had been put on a ventilator and was in critical condition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had also reached out to the singer’s family and inquired about her health on Monday. She was battling multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, since 2018. She was put on a ventilator on Monday at AIIMS, New Delhi.

PM Modi Calls Singer’s Demise As Irreparable Loss
PM Modi expressed grief over Sharda Sinha’s demise and offered his condolences through X post. He wrote, “I am deeply saddened by the demise of renowned folk singer Sharda Sinha ji. Her Maithili and Bhojpuri folk songs have been very popular for the last several decades. The echo of her melodious songs associated with the great festival of faith, Chhath, will always remain. Her demise is an irreparable loss for the music world. My condolences are with her family and fans in this hour of grief. Om Shanti!”

Her son, Anshuman Sinha, had kept the fans informed about his mother’s health, sharing updates through social media and media outlets. The folk singer’s decline in health had sparked widespread concern among her fans and well-wishers.
Sharda was known for her contributions to the traditional folk music of Bihar and her iconic Chhath geet. She was known as ‘Bihar Kokila’ and regarded as the cultural ambassador of the region.
